The Ascendants
What happens when someone decides the justice system is no longer good enough? An old case opens the door to a hidden system that judges guilt and punishment outside the courts. Michael Thorne understands the temptation better than most - which is exactly why he becomes interesting to the people behind the system. Elena discovers that private moral judgments have gradually been built into an institution. The Ascendants is an intelligent thriller about vigilante justice, power, guilt and the dangerous difference between knowing someone is guilty and having the right to punish them.
